Ukulele Café

Braddah Iz- Probably ukuleles most famous icon.  Popularly known for “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” Iz electrified audiences and held them captive with his smooth Hawaiian rhythms.

Play at parties- Impress your friends with your uke skills at the next party.  This instrument is so easy to learn that many people are playing their first songs on the uke within minutes of getting it in the mail.

History of the Ukulele
- Think ukuleles came from Hawaii?  Think again!  Read more about these incredible instruments.

Which Uke is right for you?

The Soprano is, by far, the most popular ukulele.  Its small size (13" fret board) and easy fingering make this ukulele very simple to learn and easy to transport in case you feel the need to show off in front of your friends or at a party.  Most people learn how to play on this size uke.  It is often called the "Standard" ukulele because it was the original size of a ukulele.  See soprano ukuleles . . .

The Concert was created in the early 1920's to be larger and louder than the soprano ukulele.  It has a 15" fret board but maintains the exact same chord structures as its predecessor.  If you can play a soprano then you can definitely play a concert.  See concert ukuleles . . .

Tenor shortly followed after the concert and is known to be louder and have a deeper bass sound that either the concert or the soprano.  Since it is a larger instrument (17" fret board) it has a richer sound.  Since it has the same chord structure as the smaller ukes, again, if you can play one then you can play the other.  See tenor ukuleles . . .

The Baritone is the exception to the bunch.  It has a 19" fret board (making it the larges of the ukuleles) and it has a different chord structure than the other 3 styles.  Often mistaken as a small guitar, it's strings are actually the first 4 strings of a guitar (DGBE) and it's larger size make it an excellent addition to any ukulele group. See baritone ukuleles . .
